Throughout this war, Visura has had the privilege to work with some of the photojournalists who have been documenting it and remain to do so. On behalf of them too, the war remains an issue we are committed to publishing until it is finalized. More than 4,400 Americans have perished, around 35,000 wounded, and more than 100,000 Iraqis are dead, many were civilians. This war has caused pain and suffering to many and we support its end.
The United States is in need of its leaders to focus on addressing the problems we face internally and every day, rather than prioritizing problems abroad. The working class is struggling; men and women are losing their jobs, homes, health insurance, mental and physical strength, and a sense of security about their future (after years of service and dedication). It is the Government’s turn and responsibility to honor the soldiers returning home from war, along with the rest of America’s working class, in order to, like the President said, secure the dream that many generations have fought for—the dream that a better life awaits anyone who is willing to work for it.
The President says:
Our most urgent task is to restore our economy, and put the millions of Americans who have lost their jobs back to work. To strengthen our middle class, we must give all our children the education they deserve, and all our workers the skills that they need to compete in a global economy. We must jumpstart industries that create jobs, and end our dependence on foreign oil. We must unleash the innovation that allows new products to roll off our assembly lines, and nurture the ideas that spring from our entrepreneurs. This will be difficult. But in the days to come, it must be our central mission as a people, and my central responsibility as President.
The backbone of America is its working class. No matter what Nation we are from, if we live and work in America and contribute to the progress of this Country—the Government of the Unites States of America should focus to ensure health, education, and a roof for the working class men, women and children.
Last night President Obama said, part of ending a war responsibly is standing by those who have fought it,—and, also those who, meanwhile, have worked day in and day out to keep this Country running.
I share with you today, the same quote President Obama shared with us in the beginning of the year.
I am not bound to win, but I am bound to be true. I am not bound to succeed, but I am bound to live by the light that I have. I must stand with anybody that stands right, and stand with him while he is right, and part with him when he goes wrong.—Abraham Lincoln
This is a time to come together.
