The Parramore/Holden neighborhood of Orlando, FL is one of the most disadvantaged sections of town. For many it is the scarlet letter of our city. I began photographing this area a little over a year ago. While I am aware of the problems this neighborhood faces I am also aware of its great strengths that are often overlooked because of its reputation. Through my work I have found many people who are kind, hard working, humble, and ready for people to see their neighborhood in a different light. Through this series I am trying to change the stereotypes outsiders have of this neighborhood, give dignity to those being photographed by providing them a copy of their portrait as a thank you, and build a body of work that shows the beauty, diversity, and strength of the neighborhood. It is time this neighborhood received some positive press based on the good people living in it. I hope to be photographing in this area for years to come.
