The burka hangs of a thread, situated in the highest of the part destinated to the head, it is sold in the markets and shops of Afghanistan or other countries, transmitting a ghostly feeling to our western eyes, generating a figure, an extended contour, without life. Adopting such a form, the burka has accompanied me by all those places where it is extraneous and in which I have been looking for a branch, a rod or any small ledge where expose it.
Roberto Goya is an artist established in Tenerife, born in 1977, with a degree in Dramatic Art by the School of Actors of the Canary Islands, with a multidisciplinary education that includes areas as the scenery, dance or mime. Recently he has specialized as a Cultural Manager and Scheduler by “Pedro García Cabrera” Foundation, member of E.N.C.A.T.C (European Network Cultural Administration Training Centers).
In parallel, he continues with his self-taught formation in the field of Photography, that is complemented with several courses and workshops given by artists as Joan Morey, Xavier Rivas and Sven Ehmann (PHotoEspaña2008), Isabel Flores and Manuel Montes; and the Graphic Design, that will take him for two years in the International Center of Contemporary Engraving of Santa Cruz of Tenerife, under the supervision of its director Alfonso Mertens.
His photographic work arises of the reflection regarding an object, a concept, a fact or a text with perceptible social signification to the observer. His decontextualized use or his transposition asks the spectator to review the meaning of it and its importance or social magnitude, pretending to provoke in her/him a sort of discovery that would reveal a new aspect that has remind hidden for him/her.
His photographs explain the story of an encounter, using a theatrical proposed action and that it is executed by the photographed or by himself. An interaction that is fundamental in his images and that converts the subjects in momentary actors that at the same time reflect a long with the propose initiative.
