Txuca is a photographer of performing arts and portrait born in Madrid. She is a visual creator communicating with the viewer by experimenting with technique and art, transmitting feelings and moods. Txuca works between Berlin, New York and Madrid. After studying Bachelor of Arts and then Illustration, she gained a degree in Audiovisual Communication from the UEM European University of Madrid in 2000. She has divided her career between photography, film and the production of cultural events. She coordinated Madridimagen Film Festival, which focused on new visual technology and the role of the cinematographer. She worked with professionals such as Robby Müller, André Techiné, Barry Ackroyd and Javier Aguirresarobe, among others. Txuca joined camera teams producing documentaries such as Within The Way Without by Laurence Boulting and the TV series Cuéntame.
Txuca continued to develop her skills taking part in numerous workshops and lectures such as Digital Photography in EFTI and work experience in EPC. Txuca was the photographer for Lovebytes 2005, Digital Arts Festival in Sheffield. In Madrid she actively photographs performances by the artists Suso33 and Antonio Mahugo. In 2009 Txuca joined Vander Productions photo agency until she moved to New York City in 2010. There she joined The Mothership artist collective. Txuca became the official NO Gallery in-house photographer. She continues her own style of photography on the performing arts with artists such as Sol Kjok, Richard Borge, Katy Gunn, Anders Holst, Barbès Records and Electric Cowbell Records.
At the ICP International Centre of Photography Txuca attended the Amy Arbus' workshop The Extraordinary Portrait and worked as Teacher Assistant to Robert Meyer in his lighting workshops and she collaborated in the centre's library. At the SVA School of Visual Arts Txuca took Keren Moscovitch's workshop Articulating your vision: the art of portfolio creation. She also attended The Exhibition Lab run by gallerists Sasha Wolf and James Foley, attending their course The Whole Menu and Elinor Carucci’s self portrait workshop Self portrait in everyday life. In May 2012 Txuca started to teach the workshop Retratando Personas at Fundación FIArt (Fondo Internacional de las Artes) in Madrid. She continuously works on performing arts and portrait photography in Berlin.
Txuca had individual and collective exhibitions in Madrid (Galeria Biográfica, Trojan TV Wall by Suso33 at ARCOMadrid 2012), Almeria (Spain) and New York City (International Centre of Photography - curated by Amy Arbus, School of Visual Arts, NO Gallery, The Mothership, NOoSPHERE Arts, Cin-M Artspace 43, The Invisible Dog). She won the Jury Prize in the “El Regalo” contest by PhotoEspaña and Madrid's Noche en Blanco in 2009, and a finalist in “FotoActivate” contest by InspirAction and Vice Magazine in 2009.
Txuca is currently working on an experimental photo project that will be at Performance, an exhibition project involving Spanish artists, which will take place in Berlin.
