In the past 2 years and a half, I've been living and photographing in central Asia. It's enormous here.  I see vast steppe, desert and mountains and feel like I am in nowhere. The area is sparsely populated in general, and each human settlement is connected by thin, long lines of roads that penetrate this enormous land. Central Asia is big and complex, yet there is not very much information. So, I decided to travel  around to have a better understanding of the region and photograph...

After studying photojournalism in the University of Missouri, Columbia for 4 years, Ikuru Kuwajima, originally from Japan, lived in Romania and then Ukraine for three years. He moved to central Asia in 2010 and is now based in Almaty, Kazakhstan, working on documentary photography projects, as well as commercial/editorial assignments. He is fluent in Japanese, English and Russian.
