Laura El-Tantawy is an Egyptian photojournalist and artist based in London, UK. She studied journalism & political science at the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia (USA) & started her career as a newspaper photographer with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and Sarasota Herald-Tribune (USA). In 2006 she started a freelance career and has since exclusively worked on self-initiated projects. Her work has been published and exhibited in the US, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. Laura lives between the UK, her country of birth, and Egypt, where she associates most of her childhood memories.

EXPERIENCE:
- June 2010 – One of a team of photographers commissioned to photograph the campus of international pharmaceutical company Novartis, in Basel, Switzerland.
- February 2010 – One of a team of photographers commissioned by international French publishing house, Actes Sud, to photograph the publishing house's headquarters in Arles, France.
- November 2009 – Commissioned by Teatro La Fenice, one of Venice, Italy's main historical and cultural icons, to photograph their female staff as part of my ongoing visual focus on women.
- January 2009 – six-month fellowship with Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism at the University of Oxford (UK) to research the Egyptian government's cutting down on free speech and jailing of journalists and on-line bloggers.
- October 2008 – one of a team of photographers commissioned to photograph the interior of the Italian Institute of Culture, one of France's architectural icons - Paris, France.
- March 10-14, 2008: completed four-day Centurion Hostile Environments Training Course, UK.
- February 2008 - current: selected as one of ten photographers from around the world to participate in REFLEXIONS MASTERCLASS, a two-year long-term seminar, oriented to focus on each student's visual perception and artistic consciousness, unfolding the aesthetic and ethical "vision" of an author.
- May 2007–current: Producer with Reuters Television's Middle East Report, a five-day a week production of stories from around the Middle East region made available to Reuters Middle East clients world-wide.
- May–November 2005: assistant to David Alan Harvey / Magnum, Hiphop project for National Geographic Magazine -- New York, Atlanta, Paris, Spain, Senegal, Jerusalem.
