9/11, because there's something to say
Transition has always been a hard-fought concept to navigate, particularly when that change is coming from multiple directions, demands for change are so immediate, and the scale so great, that mediation seems unachievable. When all these characteristics form a confluence, the plateau of the 'perfect storm' of change has been reached. In the first decade post 9/11 this 'perfect storm' presently stand at our doorstep. While the rest of the world also confront similar necessities of unprecedented behavioral modification, both in the halls of governance and across the kitchen table, America is built on a foundation of a continual re-invention of itself, and though these tasks remain complex and difficult the U.S.A. has this advantage of re-invention in its' DNA. Considering the 9/11 Commission report statement on a lack of imagination, "a failure of imagination characterized our inability, at all levels of government and society", and the many books written about the path humanity must take in creating a sustainable 21st century future, the one key element continually spoken of, is that of an increased level of creativity and imagination in the ways this path of transformation is forged.
As a result of radical personal change in ways of: seeing, making and thinking, post 9/11, I have independently published an 80 page volume of two inter-related suites of works (72images), 'Sinergi3s of Confluence' and the outgrowth series 'Equivalence'. The remainder of this statement is an abstract from '9/11, because there's something to say'.
Compositions here are an amalgam of moments observed and critical discussions had, though not always within the same time frame. While there are moments of instant clarity, there are just as many where conclusions are meted out well beyond the shutter release. I don't feel these works are moments sought, but quite the reverse, the resulting visuals a consequence of my constant companion in the digital glass eye. Built upon foundations of questioning and social concerns, the constants are always a distillation of 'what is', and making the most of what that instant has to offer.
The inexoraable linkage between the outer world and inner-self are path through which such works must venture. I don't pretend to understand all the whys and wherefore's of said process, nor do I suspect complete understandings are germane , or even possible, to successful results. Such visual manifestations, in great part, are gifts to me- the moment-held being resource to all that follow. Crafting the visual is somewhat like the well made necklace,…a string………of meaningful relationships.
